• Smallest of North American birds (with exception of some humming birds)
• Common
• Migration is inconspicuous as they remain all winter long
• Remarkable pendant nest, finely constructed with mosses, cobwebs, lichens, leaf bits, lushly lined with feathers, compared to a cocoon 
• Great producer: 8-9 eggs, usually layers eggs due to interior of nest size
• High mortality rate
• Likes a mixed society: chickadees, nuthatches, woodpeckers, brown creepers
• Sometimes appears in substantial numbers
